In 1967, Canada's Centennial Year - I was honored to attend the CGIT Camp at Camp Wegesegum, travelling there from Vancouver, BC.

It was a GREAT experience for a teenager to travel across Canada and meet other young women and share their stories, struggles and triumphs of being a teenager in the 60's.

And what a beautiful, fun camp it was. If any of you were at that camp - Thanks - 40 + years and I can still remember the chapel.

What Wegie Means to Teens Today

7/27/2014

At Leadership Training Camp this spring, I asked the teens to answer one of two questions:
  • What does Wegesegum mean to you?
  • What has camping or leading at Wegesegum taught you?

I wanted them to join me in my reflection as Jen and I prepared for our last summer directing camps. I asked them to take pictures of each other displaying their answers. They answered with a mixture of humour and earnestness. As I sorted through these images today, I was both amused and proud of the caring, inclusive and responsible people these campers have grown up to be. I hope you will agree that the spirit of Wegesegum lives on in each of these young people.

Hello from c. 1947

Rev. G. Howard Christie passed away last year.  His daughter Karen was kind enough to send us some photos that she came across.  She thinks they are from around 1947, when he was a minister in Jerusalem, New Brunswick. Karen went to CGIT camp in 1964 and 1965. She thinks these photos look like Wegesegum, and I agree, although it has definitely changed a great deal since then.  Please comment if you recognize anyone in these images!

Alumni Anniversary Reunion Weekend

6/12/2013

Our 90th anniversary reunion camp is fast approaching.  We hope that many campers from various decades will come.  I hope to see familiar faces as a camper of the eighties and staff member of the nineties.  To prepare for the weekend, we would like everyone to register for camp.  You can find the information on the brochure which is here on this website. You can register by mail or online. The cost depends on your age. Adults are $75 for the weekend. Those between 10 and 18 are $60, and children under 10 are $30. There will be activities for people of all ages.  Come catch up with old friends and make new memories, but first, let us know you're coming!

This coming weekend is an important one for camp: Saturday May 4th is our annual work day to open the camp up for the season. We like to think of it as May Fun Day. Dave Roy, our new property director on the board, needs as much help as he can get. Please come to Wegie that morning and Dave will put you to work.

Wegesegum turns 90 this summer. We're planning a weekend anniversary family camp in celebration from July 12th to 14th. Lori Perley has volunteered to lead the music for the weekend. We hope all of you can make it for all or part of the camp! Registration details will follow in the new year.

Camp Work Days

9/4/2012

Well everyone, it is the end of the camping year, and that brings a lot of work with it.  Over the past 15 years, Jim Brewster and members of his waterski camp team have taken care of the physical labour associated with opening and closing camp.  As Jim retires from the board, we need a new property manager, and a new team of volunteers.  Jim will be helping this year, hopefully to teach new people how to close the camp.  Here is a message from him:

"We are closing the camp on two days this year.  We have all the normal closing tasks and clean up in addition to taking down the "lightning tree" and cutting it up, and removing the docks.  The work day will be Saturday We will be there at 8 am and plan to leave at 4pm.  All who come should wear boots and work clothes and bring work gloves.  I provide lunch for people we know are coming to work for the day (I need to know by Friday morning).

Thank you Wendy for your help getting people to take over the work at the camp.  We have complied a fairly complete list of what is necessary to do year round."

Write me on the Contact tab by the Thursday evening before the work day if you plan to attend, and I will let Jim know.  I hope several of you are able to help in this concrete and important way!

Update:  The second work day has been cancelled as so much was accomplished on the first day!  Thank you to everyone who attended.

Wegesegum turns 90 in 2013.  Here is nineteen months notice of a reunion weekend on August 16 to 18th, 2013.  We would love to see past campers and leaders from every decade there to catch up and celebrate Wegesegum.  Many of us haven't been to camp since our youth or childhood, but the expereinces we had and friends we met made a lasting impression.  Come back for a weekend of fun!  This weekend is being planned so far by Yan Storr, Shirley Hunt, and Taunya Pynn.  If you are interested in helping out, let us know!
