Ready for the next step in your Wegesegum journey?
Leadership Camp is the first step for campers who dream of becoming a Camp Wegesegum counselor. Starting at age 13, campers can apply to be a Counselor in Training (CIT)—and attending Leadership Camp is required to do so.
This weekend is part training, part team-building, and part job interview, all wrapped in the full camp experience. Participants learn what it really means to be a counselor: responsibility, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and how to be a positive role model for younger campers. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and real camp scenarios, they gain confidence and practical leadership skills that carry far beyond camp.
Being a counselor or CIT is incredibly rewarding. Campers take on new responsibilities, build independence, and grow in maturity throughout the summer. Many parents tell us they see a noticeable change from the beginning of summer to the end: their kids come home more confident, capable, and self-assured.
Leadership Camp isn’t just preparation for a camp role—it’s a meaningful step in growing into a young leader.
The Camp Wegesegum Leadership Pathway:
Camp Wegesegum offers a clear progression for campers who want to grow into leadership roles. Each step builds responsibility, confidence, and real-life skills.
Counselor in Training (CIT) | Ages 13–15
The first step in leadership at camp. Campers must attend Leadership Camp to be eligible to apply as a CIT.
CITs learn the foundations of being a counselor while still being supported and guided. This role focuses on learning, assisting counselors, and practicing leadership skills in a hands-on way.
Counselor | Ages 14 – 18 (experience-based)
Counselors take on a more active leadership role, working directly with campers and helping create a safe, fun, and supportive camp environment. Advancement to Counselor depends on age, experience, readiness, and demonstrated responsibility.
Senior Counselor | Ages 14 - 18 (experience-based)
Senior Counselors are trusted leaders at camp -- looked to for guidance, support, and energy. This role is for experienced counselors ready to step into a strong leadership role while staying actively involved in daily camp life. Senior Counselors set the standard for being responsible, encouraging, inclusive, and fun. Advancement to Senior Counselor is based on age, experience, readiness, responsibility, and demonstrated leadership.
Staff Positions | Ages 15+
Staff roles may include program areas, support roles, or leadership positions across camp operations. These positions require a higher level of responsibility and independence.
